The Eastman-Gardiner Co. Office Building was constructed between 1910 and 1913 when it was occupied. It sat at the eastern end of the mill complex on Ellisville Boulevard. It still occupies this site, though the mill is long gone, replaced by Sawmill Square Mall and various other sites in downtown Laurel. The company officers who built this office building had travelled extensively throughout Europe. When a design and plan was sought for their new corporate offices it was decided to use the design of "playhouse" on the property of an Italian cardinal. This "playhouse" was the Casino of Cardinal Alessandro Farnese (nephew of Pope Paul III), a part of his estate, Villa Farnese, at Caprarola outside of Rome. The Casino served as a retreat during hunting parties, and was also used as a summer dining house by the Cardinal and his guests. The casino was built in 1547. The Eastmans and Gardiners were apparently impressed enough with it to reproduce its design in Laurel. The similarities in the two building may plainly be seen in the two photographs above.

The Eastman-Gardiner Company occupied this building for the remainder of its existence. When the company divested itself of its Laurel holdings, it became the office building of the Gardiner-Green Lumber Company. It remained the corporate headquarters of this company until it too closed its doors. Today, it contains the private offices of several of the descendants of the original founders of Eastman-Gardiner.
