Welcome to the Diocese of Mississippi. Our diocesan family is one of the smallest in the Episcopal Church. With just over 25,000 communicants, we constitute about 1% of the total population of the state of Mississippi. Yet, we are one of the oldest denominations in existence in the state. As you may read from the history of the diocese, the link of which is below, the Anglican presence in Mississippi predates the birth of our state. In a region that is dominated by Protestant denominations, many Mississippians are surprised to learn that Anglicanism predates the Baptist faith's and Methodism's arrival in the region. Only Roman Catholicism, brought to Mississippi by the French and Spanish, predates the Anglican presence in Mississippi.
